Thought the light lance covered one of those?

Also you do have pikes that exceed what any lance could reach, so maybe a longer pike.

This got abandoned for a while but I think we should move toward a fix.

A weapon with a reach of 7 is a reach weapon? That would mean that a spear in two hands is a reach weapon. Also that negates the use of the slip-thrust mf.

I'm sorry, a little confused & don't remember this thread very well. Did I stipulate that upthread or something?

No, but we need a hard a fast rule for what exactly makes a reach weapon. I'd think 9 and 8 would, but that would mean that spear with one hand would have reach, which I'm not sure is appropriate. Also, I don't think the rule of HH weapons should be applied to spears, using a spear one handed decreases your reach, unlike with longswords.

So I say that spears be made into TH weapons, and that reach should begin at 8.

Secondly, reach weapons should have even lower speed than they do now, maybe decrease them all by 2.

Thirdly, we need to decide how this extra-onset works. Normally you can only make 1 attack at onset, and a second moves you to melee. This however does seem to make sense with reach weapons. But they shouldn't be allowed to sit at extra-onset and just stab over and over again, sense that is represented by speed.

Double bump. I would like to resolve this issue but I can't decide how exactly to do it.

Ok I'll take a stab at it. I don't think reach weapons should have more than one 'reach threshold' if you will, barring special feats. So in other words, the onset should be at the outer range.

So is onset range treated as melee?

Onset range starts at the next square (i.e. 10' instead of 5') out, that is the only difference ... anything after the onset attack is at "melee" range

So everything within 5' would be melee?
