This looks like it might be pretty interesting and good

...also interesting reading the comments threads, so many people hate and are threatened by the idea of a historical setting without magic etc., and can't possibly imagine how it could be interesting or good in any way, (in spite of the existence and relative success of games like Mount and Blade) but, more hopeful for me, there also seems to be a significant minority who like the historical setting and have some inkling of just how interesting, 'different', and awesome it could actually be. There are so many fascinating and (to the modern person) unknown aspects to the historical world of this time and place that you could frankly blow ANY fantasy novel out of the water. The challenge and difficulty is having enough mastery of the subject to fit it all together because it's so complex. That is so challenging in fact it's why fantasy novels were invented in the first place, to put elements of this fascinating real world into a story without having to do all the research required to really do the reality justice. I know - I tried to do this for one corner of Europe in just one year, and it took me 6 years to finish and it's still not even done.

If we are really lucky maybe this will be something like an updated version of the old Darklands game.

I was just reading that same article a few minutes ago. Looks promising. I can't wait to hear more details. I really hope it turns out well. I might actually be persuaded to buy a computer game again.

This does look sound pretty good so far, and it's not like a few other historically-based games haven't had some success. Mount & Blade seems to have done alright and the Total War franchise has done very, very well (and was a lot of fun to boot!) I'd be interested in seeing what they mean by including historic technique. If it's button mashing I hope that at least they use animations that are based on things we see in the manuals (which is what I'm guessing will be the case.) I definitely intend to keep an eye on this one. I noticed they are also using the CryEngine, which really does tend to look quite good and I've heard more than a few good things about from devs plus another game I'm really, really looking forward to seeing (Star Citizen/Squadron 42) is also using the same engine (but in space! ;)) and looks mighty gorgeous so far as well.

It actually looks kind of cool, though they don't really show much.

Does look like some armored people being taken out pretty easily.

How does that work in Mount and Blade? Is armor realistic? I finally got a computer powerful enough to run it so I'm looking forward to trying that one out. Still a bit leery of the learning curve though.

I was just predicting stuff. That's what happens every time a "realistic" medieval cRPG is announced.

They claim to have some martial arts specialists on the team. Maybe the combat will be non-shit after all.
